Sydney Rays coach Simon Cron has named Waratahs and Manly halfback Matt Lucas captain ahead of the 2016 National Rugby Championships. Lucas has been working with Cron on the formation of the 2016 Rays playing squad since the Waratahs and the Manly Marlins were knocked out of their respective competitions. Coach Cron believes Lucas has the experience and the personal skills to excel in what is a testing but enjoyable role. “Matt epitomises what the Macquarie Uni Sydney Rays are all about,” Cron said. “He’s uncompromising, tough and at the same time has a very good Rugby brain. “Matt’s been involved in the selection process of the squad and is looking forward to getting into the hard work and detail that we need to get across before the competition kicks off on August 28."
