Premier Rugby Round 4: 5 Standout Performers
Round fourteen wins for Easts, UQ, Bond and Wests could shape the final’s race.
Here are five standout performances from the weekend.
Conor Mitchell – UQ
The veteran flanker was instrumental in UQ’s timely win over fellow top four contender Brothers.
On his return to the premier grade side, Mitchell scored an opportunistic try early in the second half before setting up Kye Oates minutes later to extend UQ’s lead to eighteen.
Mitchell also lead the chase and forced a turnover from Kye Oate’s perfectly weighted kick that allowed for another UQ try.
Paddy James – Brothers
The versatile captain of the Brethren showed his class at ten despite his side’s loss against UQ.
James’ steered his side around the park and was central to many attacking forays.
Brothers’ leader kept his team in the game on multiple occasions by first floating a cut out pass to Billy Bulley just prior to halftime before scoring himself in the second stanza.
David Vaihu – Wests
Wests’ inside centre helped put the game against Sunnybank to bed in the second half.
The Bulldog combined with his outside centre Fletcher Spicer in the first minute of the second stanza with a centimetre perfect grubber kick that further extended Wests’ lead.
Vaihu capped it all off with poise after a classy feign to pass allowed him to swan dive over the white line.
Tom Milosevic – Easts
Easts’ skipper seemed determined to amend for his side’s shock loss to Norths last weekend with an imposing display against Souths.
The No.8 barged over early to set the tone for his team who went on to score two more swift five pointers.
Milosevic’s inspiring effort’s continued in the second forty with multiple bruising carries and plenty of steel in defence.
Hamish Roberts – Bond
Debutant Bond winger Hamish Roberts’ shone in his first outing against Norths.
The No.14 crossed the try-line on two occasions and helped set up two Bull Shark’s five pointers.
His evasiveness and speed were on full display throughout Bond’s win while the youngster also proved handy in front of the uprights.
