2021 GPS Season Preview: Ipswich Grammar

Ipswich Grammar were one of the form teams throughout last year’s trial period but couldn’t quite replicate that form when the competition eventually kicked off in 2020.

A number of exciting players return from last year’s campaign though and coach Kieran Moffat seems optimistic about the season ahead.

Overview with Kieran Moffat:

“The boys have progressed really well as we have moved through pre-season. There has been a big focus on the fundamental skills of the game and developing a strong culture within the group,” Moffat told Rugby News.

“There have been some promising signs throughout our trials. Developing consistency is a priority as we move towards the season though.

“This season I’d like to see us improve our ability to stay in the arm wrestle longer and win tight, grinding games.”

What style of rugby can we expect from your side this year?

“We will continue to play a style where the boys are able to express themselves and enjoy our brand of football.”

2021 Squad:

“We’ve got a good mixture of youth and experience with a few boys returning from last year.”

Players to watch:

“Braydon O’Sullivan is a talented No.9 who returns from last year’s campaign. Malique Douthat-Sjoberg will play in the outside backs and he’s in his third season of first XV rugby,” the coach said.

“Nathaniel Fox in the forwards is also back from last year, he’ll play lock or No.8.”

Bold prediction for the season ahead?

“We expect the competition to be a lot closer than it has been in previous years with a number of contenders for the title.”
